Believe it or not, the 2021 Oscars will be live and in-person! No Zoom calls or casual clothes allowed! Read on to see everything else the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed about this year’s ceremony…
2021 Oscars: Live!
The 2021 Oscars will return this year – live! Last week, in a letter with this year’s nominees, the producers also let everyone know the show would go on. “For those of you unable to attend because of scheduling or continued uneasiness about traveling, we want you to know there will not be an option to Zoom in for the show,” producers wrote. “We are going to great lengths to provide a safe and ENJOYABLE evening for all of you in person, as well as for all the millions of film fans around the world, and we feel the virtual thing will diminish those efforts.” For those who cannot attend, the Academy will accept the award on their behalf.
However, do not think this means the 2021 Oscars will be unsafe. They plan on following all safety regulations! This will even include “specially designed testing cadences to ensure up-to-the-minute results” and “an on-site COVID safety team with PCR testing capability.” Meanwhile, to ensure maximum safety, only nominees and their single guest can attend this year’s ceremony. The Academy president David Rubin revealed this detail in an email to the Academy’s 10,000 members. “As a result, we will not be able to conduct our annual member ticket lottery,” Rubin said. Unfortunately, due to coronavirus, they have also had to cancel all of the biggest events surrounding the Oscars, like the Governors Ball.
Still, it seems that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did learn a little something from last year’s show. This year, they will also not allow any casual clothes!
No Zoom Or Casual Clothes
In addition to no Zoom calls, the 2021 Oscars will once again have a dress code. Last year, celebrities could wear what they want in the comfort of their own homes. For example, Jason Sudeikis won his Golden Globe in a funky sweatshirt. But not this year! The show will not allow any casual attire. “We’re aiming for a fusion of Inspirational and Aspirational, which in actual words means formal is totally cool if you want to go there, but casual is really not,” the letter read. Fashion fans felt very happy to hear this. After all, last year, they missed all the beautiful dresses, fun suits, and flashy accessories!
This year, the 2021 Oscars will be split between both the Union Station in downtown Los Angeles and the beloved Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Typically, the entire show takes place at the latter. While this year’s Oscars will undoubtedly be a tad different, the nominees seem fantastic! So, don’t miss the live stream of the 93rd Academy Awards show on Sunday, April 25! It’s starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC. And good luck to all the nominees!
