When making a film or television show, casting is the magic glue that holds everything together. This complicated process requires translating a character from something that exists on a page, to a living, breathing, believable character. Casting can be difficult as directors, producers, and even actors have an ever-changing vision for their work. Occasionally actors who are up for a role pass on the role or need to bow out. Other times, producers are forced to have actors replaced for personal issues.
Many of your favorite films and shows might have been drastically different, if not for actor replacements! Read on to discover some of the biggest Hollywood shake-ups.
1. Anne Hathaway as Alison Scott – Knocked Up
Anne Hathaway is a talented actress with a great range, starring in dramas, romantic comedies, Oscar-winning musicals, and action flicks! One genre she has yet to have attempted on screen is the slacker comedy – but she almost did! Hathaway originally signed on to play the female lead in Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up.
However, the role eventually went to Katherine Heigl. In the end, both actresses were likely better off. Heigl’s performance opened the door for her to become the unofficial rom-com queen of the late 2000’s. Meanwhile, Hathaway joined the indie film Becoming Jane, which won her critical acclaim.
