Movies can seem almost magical. Whether it is their incredible storytelling or visual effects, they captivate us, entertain us, and keep us talking for weeks. Just shooting a single scene can take hundreds of people. From makeup, to actors and their assistants, to catering, somehow it all comes together, and Hollywood makes it seem effortless.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like behind the scenes of your favorite film, what it’s like to make a movie filled with special effects, or you’re just a movie buff, then this is the article for you!
1. Avatar, 2009
James Cameron is a director who loves to make incredible blockbusters, for which he holds two very impressive records. The first, directing two out of the three films to gross over $2 billion at the box-office (Titanic and Avatar). The second, directing the two highest grossing films of all time (not adjusted for inflation).
You might think it’s easy to create these films, but it’s actually incredibly difficult behind the scenes. Avatar, released in 2009, took a decade to make and cost $237 million. Its high budget was mainly due to the amount of CGI work needed for the film.
