Once upon a time, the Comic Con event was mostly reserved for comic book lovers. However, no longer! Over the past decade, not only have Marvel and DC films grown in popularity, but HBO, Netflix, AMC, and other content producers have expanded their presence at the convention. Today, Comic Con is synonymous with the newest releases, whatever the medium.

Every year, production companies bring their A-game. And this year was no different! For example, Tom Cruise showed up to introduce the panel for the Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie suddenly popped in during Marvel’s incredible presentation of their cinematic future. Also, Game of Thrones and Walking Dead were just two of the shows to have cast members show up. It’s safe to say: Comic Con 2019 did not suffer from a lack of celebrities! Of course, fans also attend for some juicy reveals and behind-the-scenes stories…

From Upcoming Marvel Movies to Bidding Goodbye to Game of Thrones

E! News

On Sunday, Marvel presented its future plans for future movies, including a Black Widow prequel, new Thor and Doctor Strange movies, and many more. This was when Jolie appeared on stage, and the studio announced the legendary actress will participate in the upcoming The Eternals film, alongside huge names like Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, and more. They also hinted about new movies in the franchises of X-Men, Black Panther, and more. Meanwhile, Marvel also plans on bring some shows to Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. Fans can look forward to television shows based on popular Marvel characters Loki, Hawkeye, and more.

Speaking of television shows, Game of Thrones took the stage at Comic Con, presumably for the last time (at least for a while). The cast appeared in a goodbye panel, answering fan questions and regaling memories. One fan asked Maisie Williams if her character, Arya, received any help in killing the Night King. Williams shut down the issue immediately, stating once and for all Arya did all the work. Plenty asked the cast about the forthcoming Game of Thrones prequel series HBO recently started shooting. However, the actors remained tight-lipped – either because they can’t say, or simply because they don’t know.

More Exciting Trailers

Of course, we can’t skip over the great trailers that premiered at Comic Con 2019! The trailer for IT: Chapter Two premiered at the convention, as the first one did a few years ago. Another trailer that overjoyed fans was for The Watchmen, an HBO series created by Damon Lindelof (co-creator of Lost). The show uses the hit ’80s comic, Watchmen, as its source material. It takes place in an alternate history, where superheroes are fairly common. Attendees felt thrilled to watch the trailer and learn it will premiere this October.

For all you Walking Dead fans – AMC revealed at Comic Con that the currently-being-produced Walking Dead movie will screen in theaters! Last year, AMC network announced they’re planning on expanding The Walking Dead universe and are planning on making it last for the next ten years at least. The teaser for the film, seen above, doesn’t reveal much, but it got audiences excited to see what creators have in store for them!
