Of course, over the years, 76-year-old Dame Helen Mirren has earned many accolades thanks to her numerous roles in TV, film, and on the stage. However, one coming next year might be the best ever: the 2021 Screen Actors’ Guild (SAG) Life Achievement Award. SAG announced that Mirren would receive the role via a press release last week.

Soon enough, Mirren responded to the decision. “I am honored to have been chosen to receive the SAG Life Achievement Award,” Mirren’s own press release read. “Since I was a young actor starting out, I have always been inspired by and learned from American screen acting, so this award is particularly meaningful for me.”

The most surprising part? That it took this long for Mirren to win the award. After she’s starred in everything from The Queen and Hitchcock to The Long Good Friday and Caligula over her five-decade career. So it’s really no wonder the SAG Life Achievement Award will sit next to an Oscar, three Emmys, and a Tony Award, among many others. The win will also make Mirren the most decorated SAG award winner in history. In addition to the SAG Life Achievement Award, she also has 13 SAG Awards nominations, and five SAG Awards Actor wins.

And you’ll never believe who helped SAG make the decision…
