Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) seems like it was always a part of our lives. The show has been running for 13 years with 26 seasons. It became extremely popular very fast and is one of the only American TV shows that has had such a long lifespan. Alongside celebrities and professional dancers we’ve laughed, cried, got emotional – and now it’s time to list the best five Dancing With The Stars Moments!
Season 3 – Jerry Springer Learns To Waltz For His Daughter’s Wedding
Even though Jerry Springer and dancing partner Kym Johnson were voted off relatively early in the show in 2006, they performed one routine which made history on the show and left a mark. Springer, a talk show host whom we associate with family drama and tabloid talk, learned to waltz so he could dance with his daughter at her wedding and make her proud. Springer struggled throughout his short DWTS stay but gave it his all for this one dance.
Season 21 – Bindi Irwin’s Touching Tribute To Her Late Father The Crocodile Hunter
When the late Crocodile Hunter – aka Steve Irwin’s – daughter, Bindi, performed this routine on season 21 (2015) of Dancing With The Stars, there was not a single dry eye in the audience. Bindi took it upon herself to commemorate her father; pictures of Steve were incorporated into the dance and Bindi and her dancing partner, Derek Hough, blew us all away with this touching tribute to the Australian legend. Bindi was the winner of the season (alongside Hough, once again).
Season 5 – Marie Osmond Faints Mid-Critique
Sometimes it’s easy to forget that DWTS contestants (professional dancers and celebrities) are humans, just like us. They have their high and low moments, and tension can get to them as well. In 2007, When Marie Osmond, the Donny & Marie host passed out in the middle of the judges’ critique of her routine – it left us all shook. Osmond performed a Samba number with dancing partner Jonathan Roberts just mere moments beforehand. Osmond received immediate medical help and recovered quickly, to everyone’s relief. Stress can get to everyone!
Season 11 – Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough Pull Off the Ultimate Dirty Dancing Number
In 2010, Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough – a previous three-time DWTS winner – danced in season 11 to “These Arms Of Mine,” one of the most famous, sexy dances to end all dances from Dirty Dancing (1987). The two pulled it off amazingly. Right from the beginning of the season, they had incredible chemistry and a great bond. Which is why we were only half surprised when Grey was crowned as the winner of the season alongside Hough.
Season 24 – The Marriage Proposal
Planning a proposal is hard. Executing it correctly and getting a “yes” – that’s nerve-wracking. That’s why this incredible moment from the 2016 season of Dancing With The Stars was cemented in the show’s history. Professional dancer Sasha Farber got down on his knee and proposed to his then-girlfriend (now wife!), professional dancer Emma Slater. On live broadcast television. Slater was so surprised and emotional; she immediately said yes… and the rest is history.
