Fast & Furious remains one of the most bankable franchises in Hollywood. Now, reports are coming out of Hollywood that late actor Paul Walker’s brother might take on his iconic Fast & Furious role, Brian. Here’s everything you need to know about a possible game-changer…

Fast & Furious recently released the ninth film in the franchise, Hobbs & Shaw, which also marked the first spin-off. Still, fans loved the movie, and it made more than ever. However, every new F&F release is a bittersweet one ever since 2013, when the iconic Paul Walker passed away. Every new movie is a painful reminder of the loss, but also an opportunity to celebrate Walker’s life and accomplishments.

After Paul Walker passed, filmmakers went to his brothers, Cody and Caleb, to decide how they should send-off their brother’s character, Brian. In the end, they decided not just to write him out. The brothers went on to help finish filming scenes from the seventh Fast & Furious – the last one which featured Walker. Even though they felt overwhelmed by the experience, ultimately, it all worked out for the best. “It was an absolute roller coaster throughout the entire process – lots of tears, lots of laughs. It’s an experience that I was very hesitant to commit to, but I’m really glad I did. I met a ton of really amazing people and made several life-long friendship,” Cody said later.

And lately, there have been talks about bringing back Walker’s iconic F&F character back in future films…

“He Was The Real Deal”

So, why do fans and industry experts think Brian might return? Well, Vin Diesel shared a photo on his Instagram page of himself and Cody Walker. Cody was also spotted on the filming set of the next F&F movie. However, it could be just a visit to the set; rumors have it he might take it upon himself to bring Brian back to on-screen life. As of yet, it’s unknown whether Cody will indeed take the role of Brian.

Still, the hits keep piling up. In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Cody said, “I think there could potentially be a way to do it. But it would take a lot of thought, and it’d have to be tasteful. […] He was the real deal, the real car guy.” One final clue also emerged recently: producers confirmed that Brian’s wife, Mia, would indeed make another appearance in the next F&F film. If Mia returns, will Brian as well? All this could soften the ground for a Brian return, instead of completely surprising fans at the cinema.

It’s safe saying Fast & Furious fans would absolutely love and appreciate the franchise reviving Walker’s character. The actor’s on and off-screen chemistry with actor Vin Diesel made the two one of the most known and loved Hollywood pairs. Unfortunately, this could also prove to become the biggest problem with having someone else take on the role. Thankfully, this isn’t the first time the F&F crew has discussed how to carry on Paul Walker’s legacy

The director of the next Fast & Furious film, F. Gary Gray, also directed Fast & Furious 8, the first film after Walker’s death. The director has shared that he and the rest of the crew discussed at length how to handle the actor’s absences in the eighth movie. Apparently, there have been thoughts before of bringing Brian back, perhaps digitally or in other ways (like bringing Cody Walker in to play his brother’s part). In the end, they decided to mention him in the eighth film, which was released in 2017.

Will Brian be back thanks to Cody instead of Paul Walker? We’ll have to wait and see when the film comes out early next year.
