The newest, largest Harry Potter store will open this year in New York City. The state-of-the-art Harry Potter shop will feature exclusive merchandise, products, and even Potter-themed food! So heads up, Potterheads: we hope your bank account is ready for this!
The New Harry Potter Store Coming This Summer
The Warner Bros. company unveiled the plans for the newest Harry Potter Shop in New York City last Thursday. The store will cover 20,000-square-feet over three stories, at 935 Broadway. According to the company’s press release, the Harry Potter store will “house the largest collection of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts products in the world under one roof.”
Until recently, the only Harry Potter stores resided in theme parks, like Universal Studios in Los Angeles and Orlando. Then, Warner Bros. opened up a few, smaller Harry Potter Shops in British transport hubs, like Heathrow Airport and, of course, King’s Crossing. These stores sell the classic loved Potter food and merchandise, like Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, which the new NYC store will also sell. Meanwhile, the new store will also feature brand-new and exclusive items found nowhere else!
New York City: “The Ideal City”
Warner Bros’ Senior Vice President of Worldwide Tours and Retail, Sarah Roots, feels nothing but confidence regarding the new shop. “This will be the largest dedicated Harry Potter store in the world and will become a must-visit fan destination where Harry Potter enthusiasts can engage with interactive experiences and numerous photo opportunities as they step into the magic.”
The statement also revealed the reason behind the store’s location. It called NYC an “ideal city” to launch the store in. After all, everyone knows New York for its love of fashion, books, movies, and trendsetting stores. Of course, NYC also draws in more tourists every year than nearly any other U.S. city. Warner Bros. also picked the city due to its “many dedicated Wizarding World fans, a cutting-edge retail environment and a community that embraces innovative experiences.”
23 Years Of Potter Love, And Going
While Harry Potter takes place mostly in England, that hasn’t stopped the franchise from spreading to every continent in the past 23 years. Since the debut of the first novel, publishers have translated the series into over seventy languages and it sold a whopping 500 million copies! Afterward, as you might imagine, author J.K. Rowling became one of the richest women in the world.
Of course, the books later became lauded films, with the first debuting in 2001. This only spread the Potter phenomenon further, as almost every entry broke box office records. In total, the eight movies made over $6.5 billion worldwide in the cinemas! Now there are spin-off films, theme park rides, and even a Broadway play. So, it only seems fitting that a massive Harry Potter store should open in one of the busiest, most loved cities in the world.
The city of New York still needs to approve the last round of design, so expect to hear more about the opening date soon!
