When Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith scheduled a one-on-one episode of their Facebook family show Red Table Talk, everyone knew it would be an interesting episode. After all, the show is usually hosted by the entire Smith family. However, no one expected Jada Pinkett to reveal an affair live on air!
How It All Began
For those who don’t follow the news, this strange story did not actually start with this month’s Red Table Talk episode. In fact, rumors of a relationship between Jada Pinkett and rapper August Alsina started to swirl in the spring of 2018, thanks to photos like the one above. An up-and-comer in the rap scene, Alsina has had a few minor hits, like “Nunya.” Then, in late June of this year, Alsina actually confirmed his side of the affair to podcaster Angela Yee. In the interview, he not only claimed the Smiths, whom he considers “[his] family,” have an open marriage, but that the Independence Day star also allegedly gave the rapper permission to see Jada Pinkett.
“I actually sat down with Will [Smith] and had a conversation…He gave me his blessing,” Alsina said to Yee. “And I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really, deeply loved and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it. I gave my full self to it. So much so that I can die right now and be ok with knowing that I fully gave myself to somebody…And some people never get that in this lifetime.”
Of course, many refused to believe these claims! After all, Jada Pinkett and Will continued to deny the claims. Until the most recent episode of Red Table Talk, that is…
Jada Reveals Her Cards
During the latest episode of Red Table Talk, seen above, Jada Pinkett and Will Smith finally addressed the claims, apparently at the behest of Jada. According to her, she wanted to fully explain everything to Will, as he apparently did not know the extent of it. The actress started by claiming she had met Alsina around four years ago, at the same time the rest of the Smith family did. As Will would support, she backed up Alsina’s claim that the rapper became very close to the family. During the same period, the couple decided to take a break from their relationship. “We decided we were going to separate for a period of time, and you go figure out how to make yourself happy, and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy,” recalled Will.
“From there, as time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August,” Jada then continued. “An entanglement? A relationship,” Smith countered. In the end, the actress admitted that she had an affair with Alsina. Afterward, Jada Pinkett took full responsibility. “The only person that could give permission in that particular circumstance is myself,” she stated. “I just wanted to feel good, it had been so long since I felt good. And it was really a joy to just help heal someone.”
Since the episode, Jada and Will Smith have made it clear that they have no intention of getting a divorce. “We came together young, and we were both broken in our own ways, and to be able to make mistakes without the fear of losing your family is so critical,” Will said.
Meanwhile, since the episode, Alsina has remained by his side of the story. “As two men, we had a conversation, and that’s what it was,” he explained of the chat he had with the actor. “Everything that I’ve spoken on in my initial interview is and was, and still is, my exact truth.” Most recently, the rapper released a song, fittingly entitled “Entanglements,” which includes relationship-referencing lines like “That ain’t my girl, but I got the key to the crib and to the car.” We’ll have to wait and see what happens next in this Tinsletown saga…
