When it comes to Game of Thrones, HBO can’t get enough of George R. R. Martin and A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF) series. The TV show ended in 2019 but a prequel, House of the Dragon, is set to premiere this year. Now, the streaming network is also thinking about a possible Jon Snow spinoff – one of the most popular characters in the show.

Exploring Jon Snow’s Story

HBO is joining Game of Thrones fans in their obsession with the show by planning a possible Jon Snow spin-off. That said, while it’s not the only show branch HBO will be covering in the coming years, it might just be the most popular and exciting so far. Kit Harington’s Jon Snow is one of the more recognizable characters in the series. If the spin-off plan comes to life, it would become a part of the post-Westeros story of Snow, or Aegon Targaryen, and Harington will reprise his role. For now, the character’s story ended with him discovering his real name, Aegon Targaryen, a possible heir to the Iron throne.

In the finale of the series, Jon Snow was exiled from Westeros and then went on a journey to the North of the Wall with the Wildlings. His goal was to explore the new possibilities before him and leave his past behind. While there are a few other projects tied to the GoT series, this project will be the first spin-off and first sequel to the fantasy drama. After it ran for eight seasons, fans are more than excited to see what’s in store for their favorite character. So, it might also be even more popular than the original show’s last season. Since its launch, GoT became HBO’s most popular and Emmy-winning series of all time. For his performance as Snow, Harington was also nominated for two Emmys.

Good Sign For Older Characters

What does this mean for other Game of Thrones characters and stories? This Jon Snow project can open a few doors to older characters we know. At least, it can showcase them in the possible spin-off. They include Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams, Sansa Stark by Sophie Turner, and Brienne of Tarth by Gwendoline Christie. The only downside is that a lot of older faces have vanished from the universe forever, and there’s no way to resurrect them. Fans will also have to wait for the new projects to be announced. In 2022, there are seven Game of Thrones projects in development – apart from the well-known House of the Dragon.

The latter is a prequel to the popular ASOIAF, the series on which Game of Thrones is based on. It tells the story of the the House Targaryen civil war and set about 200 years before the main events everyone’s familiar with. House of the Dragon is based on Martin’s 2018 novel Fire and Blood.

The Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon will debut on August 21 in the U.S. and on 22 August in the U.K. In addition to this anticipated prequel, HBO is working on a few other backstories to GoT.Prequels like Dunk and Egg, or The Sea Snake are still in the developing stages.
