Kirsten Bell’s Amazing Initiative For Teachers

Even with all the advancements in technology, nothing can replace a teacher. It remains one of the most essential jobs in the world, often requiring extreme sacrifice. Teachers work long hours and take care of dozens, if not hundreds, of students with little pay and less thanks. Even worse, many teachers must purchase school supplies with their own money! They invest hundreds of dollars a year, all to ensure students receive the best educational and creative experience they can.

Enter actress Kirsten Bell. You’re like familiar with her work on Veronica Mars, The Good Place, and, of course, Frozen. She’s also built up quite the Instagram following, thanks to her hilarious pictures and constant charity work. Recently, one of Bell’s charity initiatives truly took off. Over the past year, in addition to working, Bell has also worked hard to supply teachers with everything they need – at no cost to them!

The Featured Teacher Friday Campaign

It all started in 2018, when the actress launched #FeaturedTeacherFriday. Every week Bell, who has 12.5 million followers on Instagram, shared stories of hardworking school teachers from across the United States. Along with their tales, she also includes a link to an Amazon wish list, where her followers can purchase supplies for the teacher featured in her post.

Of course, everyone loved Bell’s campaign. Online users frequently share the stories and wish lists to their followers, quickly spreading the word. As a result, the teachers have not only received an outpouring of love and well wishes, but nearly everything on their lists as well!

One story came from Veronica Lanada, a middle school Spanish teacher from Long Island. “This opportunity would help me incorporate books to expand my Spanish library and enhance students’ reading comprehension skills. My students will also be able to improve their speaking and writing skills and knowledge of the Hispanic culture,” Lanada wrote to Bell.

After Bell featured Landa on her Instagram page, the teacher received love, supports, donations, and supplies – including a new laptop. The teacher said what toucher her most were the notes from donators. “…I was just sitting there crying, overwhelmed with what people were saying. There was even a girl who is 16 and took her own money and bought me a book. She said she wants to become a music teacher, and the fact that a 16-year-old was supporting me, it put me in tears,” Landa remembered on Good Morning America.

Reaching People All Over The World

Since Bell asks all her followers to share her #FeaturedTeacherFriday posts, the stories spread all over the world. For instance, Kristin Riggs, a teacher from North Carolina, told her followers, “I even got a gift from the UK and Zimbabwe!” after Bell featured her.

Bell’s initiative gave Landa, Riggs, and many others a fresh breath of air. By providing them with supplies, Bell and her followers allowed the teachers to focus on what matters: teaching. Now, they can also spend more time prepping their lessons, ensuring their students receive the best education possible. The program is not entirely about teachers, however. Bell also said that she posts these stories to bring attention to the desperate lack of help teachers and students receive. Hopefully, in the future, these posts will help change policy.

If you choose, you can donate to the cause by going to DonorsChoose.com and choosing an educator from the website. You can also nominate yourself or a loved teacher by sending your story to featuredteacherfriday@gmail.com.
