While the recent preview did not include any video footage from Obi-Wan, it did have some sneak peeks about what will happen. Concept art showed Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen) locked in a lightsaber battle. That’s right! In the preview, McGregor also talked about the upcoming confrontation. “To have another swing at each other might be quite satisfying,” he explained. Show director Deborah Chow agrees! “We couldn’t tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader,” she said in the preview.

So fans know they have an upcoming battle between one of the last Jedis and his former apprentice. But what else can they look forward to? Well, along with the concept art, the teaser also included some information about the plot. Obi-Wan Kenobi will take place 10 years after the events of the third Star Wars film, Revenge of the Sith. According to Chow, it’s “quite a dark time” for middle-aged Obi-Wan, a Jedi in hiding. “It’s not safe,” Chow says. “There’s Jedi hunters out there.”

Meanwhile, the preview also alluded to some of the other players in the show. Joel Edgerton will reprise his role as Luke’s Uncle Lars. A list of other stars will also join the program, including Bonnie Piesse, Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Benny Safdie, and Maya Erskine, among many others.

Of course, as fans know, Obi-Wan has “one task left” on the desert planet of Tatooine: protect young Luke Skywalker safe. Meanwhile, Darth Vader and the other Jedi hunters try and track Obi-Wan down. The new show is sure to be a tense game of cat-and-mouse. While fans already know how it ends, thanks to the fourth Star Wars film, A New Hope, plenty of surprises are sure to occur along the way!

Hitting Disney+ Next Year

After rumors about a series dedicated to Obi-Wan swirled for years, Disney finally confirmed the plans in August, 2019. At the Disney fan convention D23, both Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and McGregor took the stage and revealed the logo. As you might imagine, however, the coronavirus pandemic shifted the shooting scheduling. The actor even alluded to the delays in the recently released preview on Disney Plus: “There’s a hunger for this character to come back,” he said. “The fans have been waiting long enough, you know?”

Now, thankfully, things are back on track. The new show, appropriately titled Obi-Wan Kenobi, will premiere in 2022. Its debut will come in the midst of Disney Plus Day, a celebration of the streamer’s second anniversary. And fans cannot wait to see it! Only one question remains: will it live up to the hype? Only time will tell…
