It seems impossible, but the original Punky Brewster sitcom ended 35 years ago this year. The sitcom, which premiered in 1984, aired for seasons, earning an Emmy nomination three out of the four. The show also launched the career of actress Soleil Moon Frye, who portrayed the titular little girl. In case you don’t remember, the show followed around adorable, young Brewster, as her foster parent, played by famed actor George Gaynes, tries to raise her. Of course, the funny, playful person Brewster is, she always managed to find a way into trouble – and out of it!

Now, Punky Brewster has returned, and she’s raising a family of her own! Thankfully, Frye will return as Brewster, as no one else could take on the role. Likewise, actress Cherie Johnson will also return, once again playing the part of Brewster’s best friend, Cherie Johnson. Meanwhile, popular actor Freddie Prinze Jr. as Travis, Brewster’s ex-husband, and child actors Quinn Copeland, Noah Cottrell, Oliver De Los Santos, and Lauren Lindsey Donzis as her children.

Wondering what new tales Punky Brewster will tell this time around? Well, it’s undoubtedly a storyline for the modern era!

Punky Brewster Reboot Revival

As you might suspect, the reboot series will dive deep into what it means to balance motherhood with the dreams of your childhood. The new show will rejoin Brewster as an adult, freshly-single mother of three “trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self.” That young girl, Izzy, finds herself in the foster care system, just like Brewster, so the single mother of three.

However, those looking for romance as well will not need to look far! It seems that there are still some sparks between Brewster and her ex-husband Travis. All in all, Frye feels sure that lovers of the original sitcom will love this fresh, modern take on the show. “SO excited for the Punky Power! Here’s a look at the all-new #PunkyBrewster,” she tweeted alongside the brand-new trailer. Want to check it out? Head on over to YouTube!

The new revival of Punky Brewster will last ten episodes. Let’s hope NBC orders a second season! All ten episodes of the rebook will debut on February 25 on NBC’s new streaming service, Peacock.
