Have you ever forgotten an important date? Well, don’t worry about it – even famous people like Sarah Michelle Gellar forget their wedding anniversary dates!
Sarah Michelle Gellar Forgets Her Anniversary
Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, still best remembered as the titular Buffy the Vampire Slayer, recently admitted that she forgot a very important. The date? Her wedding anniversary with actor Freddie Prinze Jr.! Last week, she shared a beautiful black and white picture from their 2002 nuptials. “Today, on our 19 wedding anniversary, I would like to take this opportunity to thank @goodmorningamerica and @usweekly for alerting my #momsquad that it was indeed our anniversary, and in turn thank my #momsquad for alerting me, as I honestly thought it was tomorrow,” the 44-year-old actress wrote on Instagram. “Happy anniversary @realfreddieprinze today, tomorrow and any day after that I think might be our anniversary in the future.”
Prinze Jr., 45, took the whole thing in stride. “I’m sticking with tomorrow. I don’t care what they said,” he teased her in the comments. Interactions like this are the reason that fans continue to adore the Gellar-Prinze Jr. relationship. For those who don’t know, the actors met back in 1997, while working on the teen slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer. Five years later, in 2002, they had a beautiful wedding. Now, 19 years later, they have two children – daughter Charlotte, 11, and son Rocky, 9.
Just wait until you hear about their first date!
19th Wedding Anniversary
In addition to celebrating their 19th wedding anniversary this year, the couple celebrate their 20th anniversary from their first date last year. You see, the couple’s first date was initially meant to be just a friendly get-together with actress Leslie Sloane. However, Sloane needed to miss the dinner due to a late flight. So, Gellar and Prinze Jr., then friends, decided to keep the dinner date. Soon enough, it turned into a romantic dinner!
Prinze Jr. remains the date like it was yesterday – not two decades ago! “We sat down and she ate everything,” he said, “including a crab that they let walk across the counter, then kill while it was alive in some oil and said, ‘It’s popcorn, try.’ And she ate it without even blinking, and I was like, ‘Yo, my girl is legit.'” Gellar agrees: she could feel their relationship changing at dinner. “We were just two people at dinner catching up. We had a long car ride and a long dinner, and things just happened,” Gellar explained.
Now, 20 years later, Gellar and Prinze Jr. are happier than ever. “Now 20 years together, 17 plus married and two kids, we still go to that restaurant for dinner,” Gellar wrote last year on Instagram. “So thank you @sloaney77for not showing up for dinner.” Congrats!
