A little-known truth of show business is that behind every great movie star is a great stunt double. We love seeing our favorite stars dangling from ceilings, jumping off airplanes and trading blows. But these stunts are extremely dangerous and require high levels of athleticism and training. After all, not everyone can jump out of a moving burning vehicle.
We rarely get to see the stars right by their doubles. Sometimes the similarity is uncanny, sometimes it’s hard to believe that doubles could ever pass for the real things. Some stuntmen even double for women!
Today previously unseen footage is making its way online, allowing us to get behind the scene peaks at the making of our favorite classics and recent hits. Want to see for yourselves? Read on!
1. Carrie Fisher
There can only be one Princess Leia. Or can there? Carrie Fisher became a household name after portraying the rebel princess of Alderaan in Star Wars. Fisher as Leia in her now famous (or maybe infamous?) gold bikini was a seminal moment for an entire generation.
But Fisher wasn’t the only one to dawn the iconic metallic get up. Tracey Shane Eddon was a young English stunt double when she was hired to work on Return Of The Jedi. Her outfit was slightly different than Fisher’s – made of rubber, instead of metal, to give more flexibility in action scenes.
