The Super Bowl has officially come and gone! Now, its time to take a look back and see which companies and performers came out on top! From the Super Bowl 2020 commercials to the halftime show, discover the highlights of the biggest game of the year…
Super Bowl 2020
The Super Bowl remains one of the biggest days of the year in America! In fact, many want the Monday after, Super Monday, considered a national holiday! Every year, the Bowl consists of three main elements: the football game, the commercials, and the halftime show. It’s a little something for everyone, no matter your preference!
This year, the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs faced off in Miami, Flordia. While Chiefs’ fans went home a little happier, with a 31-20 win, almost everyone agreed that the teams played an intense and great game. And everyone agreed it was better than last year’s game! However, viewers had a lot more to say about the Super Bowl 2020 halftime show and commercials…
Superbowl Ads: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
As always, plenty of entertaining Super Bowl commercials aired this year. One of the biggest hits came from chip company Doritos, whose ad featured a dance-off between actor Sam Elliot and rapper Lil Nas, to the latter’s viral hit “Old Town Road.” Meanwhile, Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa starred in a hilarious commercial for Rocket Mortgage, poking fun at his incredible physique and luscious locks.
Meanwhile, two ads hit hard by re-creating classic movies. The first, created by Mountain Dew, featured Bryan Cranston and Tracee Ellis Ross acting out famous scenes from the iconic horror film The Shining. You can watch it above! Jeep had a similar commercial, with Bill Murray starring in a Jeep commercial that doubled as a Groundhog Day sequel. This time around though, character Phil Connors doesn’t mind being stuck in a loop, since he has a Jeep!
Unfortunately, some Super Bowl commercials totally flopped. Everyone agreed that the Planter’s ad, featuring a new, baby Mr. Peanut just did not work. Other commercials simply felt like advertisers were trying too hard, like Michelob Ultra’s beer commercial. In it, Jimmy Fallon and John Cena strangely workout together, with no laughs to be found.
Another flop was Facebook‘s ad. The social media giant has experienced some controversies lately, and so they tried to make up for it with a feel-good commercial. It features people coming together over the words “rock” or “rocking” to form a Facebook Group. After it ended with comedian Chris Rock and actor Sylvester Stallone shadow boxing on the Rocky steps, many commented that it just felt like pandering.
2020 Halftime Show: Female Power, Latina Love, And Lots Of Fun
The Super Bowl 2020 Halftime Show felt like pure fun, with many calling it a throwback to the Britney Spears days. Icons Shakira and Jenifer Lopez performed separately and then joined forces at the end, in a dazzling performance. Not only did the two show off some serious female popstar power, but they also showed some love for Puerto Rico!
As the two singers hadn’t debuted a new album in a while, they performed hits from their entire discography, like Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Waka Waka,” and “Whenever, Wherever”; J.Lo fired up the crows with “Waiting For Tonight,” “Get On The Floor,” and of course “Jenny From The Block.” Towards the end, J.Lo’s daughter Emme even joined in and sang a couple of lines with her mother!
Was it the most unique, dazzling Super Bowl Halftime Show? Not when compared to previous performances by Lady Gaga or Beyonce. However, Shakira and Lopez’s show seemed effortless and fun, something viewers haven’t seen in a while. The whole thing was an absolute blast!
