In case you have been living under a rock and completely missed Netflix’s hit drama The Crown, let us fill you in. The show follows the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth the II. To portray the aging of character properly, new actors are cast every two seasons. For instance, in seasons one and two, Clair Foy and Matt Smith portrayed Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip, respectively. However, in season three, Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies took over the roles.

Now, the makers of The Crown have revealed the newest member of the cast: actress Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana. If Debicki looks familiar, its because she’s starred in a string of hits recently, everything from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, to The Great Gatsby, as seen above. Next, fans can see her in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming thriller Tenet. “Princess Diana’s Spirit, her words, and her actions live in the hearts of so many,” Debicki said on Twitter. “It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series. Which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”

Unfortunately, fans will need to wait for some time until they see Debicki as the World’s favorite princess…

Currently, Netflix has produced three seasons of The Crown. Earlier in the year, the cast and crew had just started production on the fifth season, Debicki’s debut as Diana. However, as you might imagine, coronavirus put a stop to that. Now, instead of debuting in the fall of 2021, as previously expected, The Crow season five will likely debut in late 2022. The fifth season will also bring Oscar nominee Jonathan Pryce as Prince Phillip and Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth.

Thankfully, fans of The Crown will not need to wait too much longer for fresh content. While season five remains a while out, season four will arrive on November 15, 2020, almost exactly a year after season three debuted on November 17, 2019. Season four will actually be fans’ first sneak peek at Princess Diana, with Emma Corrin portraying a very young Diana. Debicki will get the meat and potatoes of the role though, as season five and six of The Crown will focus on Diana and Charles’ disintegrating relationship and her death.

Sadly for fans of the historical drama, seasons five and six will mark the end of The Crown. While the show has remained a hit for Netflix, the network does not want to fictionalize any events later than Diana’s death. That makes sense! Thankfully, fans have at least three more seasons to enjoy!
