One of AMC’s longest running and most beloved shows, the Walking Dead season 9 recently concluded. Many felt the newest season included too many odd plot lines and shock-factor moments to boost ratings. Other fans called it “the best the show has been in years.” However, almost everyone agreed that the last episode worked as a great conclusion to an uneven season.

Season 10 will premiere in October of this year – so there’s not too much of a wait. And as we already know, AMC and Walking Dead producers want to continue the show’s universe for another decade, plus Andrew Lincoln is set to star in a WD film trilogy. So, for now, let’s have a little Walking Dead season 9 recap.

Where Things Stand At The End Of Walking Dead Season 9

Walking Dead season 9 featured quite a few time jumps, so it’s quite understandable if you got a little confused. At first, the season began roughly a year-and-a-half after Negan’s defeat. From there, the season focused on Rick trying to quite literally bridge the gap between communities by…building a bridge. Halfway through the season, Rick almost died while blowing up his precious bridge. Thankfully, he survived, heading off to “parts unknown” with Anne and Jadis in a helicopter.

Then, the season jumped forwards once again, this time by six years! A now pre-teen Judith helps out; however, the four communities of the Coalition (Kingdom, Alexandria, Hilltop, and Oceanside) still don’t get along very well. This changes when a new threat arrives: The Whisperers, an evil gang of survivors who wear disguises to blend in with Walkers. Still, even with combined forces, they stand little chance against the Whisperers who unleash a devastating blow against the Kingdom. Afterward, they warn the entire Coalition to stay out of their territory, or things will get even worse.

The Kingdom is eventually abandoned after their losses, and Hilltop becomes the favored base. Unfortunately, a deadly blizzard starts to roll in as the Kingdommers move, forcing them through the Whisperers territory. Meanwhile, at Alexandria, Judith runs off to rescues Daryl’s dog, who runs into the blizzard. Negan risks his own life by heading out after her to save her life, hurting his leg in the process. Thankfully, Michonne watches on, saving both Negan and Judith, and gaining some respect for Negan. However, while Michonnes saves Judith and Negan, an unknown woman calls for any survivors over the radio.

So what will happen to Michonnes, Judith, and Negan? Will the Whispers attack Hilltop? Who is the woman on the radio? So many questions…

Fans know little about what season ten of Walking Dead will contain. However, a few details have started to emerge. First, Danai Gurira, who portrays Michonne on the show, announced in February 2019 that season ten will be her final season. Moreover, she will also go from a series regular to a recurring role in the next season. Thankfully, the Hollywood Reporter reported that Gurira will likely join Andrew Lincoln in his Walking Dead movies. Fans also received a hint from Ian Goldberg, co-showrunner of Fear of the Walking Dead: radiation is going to play a large part in future seasons of all shows.

Meanwhile, as previously stated, the show will also get not one, but two new spinoffs, not including the currently airing Fear of the Walking Dead! So, if you’re a big Walking Dead fan, there will be no shortage of great content to enjoy. In fact, just last year, AMC CEO Josh Sapan said that the had plans to continue this incredible franchise for at least another ten years!
