Warwick Davis as Willow

Willow — the movie from 1988 might not have been as popular as Star Wars or Indiana Jones, but it earned it’s own cult following. Now, it’s getting a sequel series in 2022! Find out how the story continues in the upcoming Disney+ show.

Official Willow Sequel With Returning Faces

Willow series trailer

Disney+ has finally revealed the official trailer for the new Willow series, which takes place decades after the original film. In the trailer, fans can see a variety of dreamy locations followed by a woman’s voice. “There is a story of a child destined to be an empress, and the unlikely hero who would protect her,” the voiceover states. Returning star Warwick Davis, who plays the titular character of Willow Ufgood, then appears on the screen. The image of his character is followed by other faces and scenes, which include queens, kings, battles, and mystery.

Davis isn’t the only one returning to the old Willow story. Created by Star Wars mastermind George Lucas, the 1988 film was directed by Ron Howard. And the latter is coming back to be an executive producer on the series. Joanne Whalley will also be returning to her role of Shorsha.

Some might be surprised at the sudden continuation of the story. It wasn’t the most popular when it came out, and Lucasfilm had no intentions of laying its finger on the classic. Moreover, Willow Ufgood successfully ended his quest in the movie.

34 Years Later…

Of course, the sequel series will focus on a fresh storyline. In 2022, 34 years after the original movie, the sorcerer will take up a new task. In the past, he was on a quest to save the life of a child, Elora Danan. When the queen wanted to kill her, Willow stood his ground. Now, Lucas commissioned Chris Claremont to write three parts to the new novel series, which take place 15 years later.

In the new story, Willow is helping a young woman named Kit find her brother. To look into the kidnapping, a few new faces will join the two on the way to truth and justice. Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Dempsey Bryk will appear beside Davis in the new series. Disney is presenting a new star, too; Talisa Garcia will be the first openly transgender person to take on a cisgender role in Disney history!

So, when will fans be able to check out the new Willow series? The first episode will air on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Eight episodes will come out in total, with each one airing every following Wednesday.
