One North Carolina woman has a particular hobby: ordering everything she can off Amazon. So much so that, when her birthday arrived, her husband got her a cake that looks like an Amazon package. Read on to discover just how this funny prank happened!
An Amazon Package Or… Cake?
Some love to collect stamps, while others adore deep-sea diving. Some prefer knitting, others like playing sports, and many enjoy merely watching television. Emily McGuire’s hobby, however, is shopping on Amazon. So, her husband gifted her with the most hilariously sweet birthday cake for her birthday.
So how much shopping makes a hobby? Well, McGuire says that she orders an item off of Amazon three times a week, at the minimum! Like many, McGuire says that when she wants to buy something, she always goes on Amazon first. So, as you might imagine, the family receives plenty of Amazon packages through the post. McGuire’s husband, who currently serves in the military, knows there’s not much he can do about it and just laughs it off. However, he did think of a way to poke fun at his wife, just a little. For McGuire’s 39th birthday, her husband ordered her the most fitting birthday cake… a cake that looks exactly like an Amazon package. And when we write exactly, we mean it!
It Looks So Real!
As you can see in the photos, the cake looks incredibly realistic. Unless it’s cut open, it’s hard to tell! It included a UPS priority shipping label on it and a fake address (1234 Birthday Lane). It also has the famous Amazon seal, the interior look of a cardboard box, the bar code, everything. But the inside looks delicious and inviting, as any chocolate buttercream cake should! The unique cake was a three-layer chocolate cake with buttercream. If you’re wondering who makes these sort of cakes, well, it was the Inspiring Grounds and Sweet Dreams Bakery located in Dunn, North Carolina.
So, how did the birthday girl respond? When McGuire first saw the cake, she felt shocked, and like her husband, “gets her!” Plus, she loved eating the delicious cake! Of course, it didn’t take very long at all for the Amazon cake photos to hit the internet…
More Amazon Cake Orders?
After her birthday, McGuire posted images of the cake on her photography business’ Facebook. Not long after, the bakery also shared photos of the cake on Facebook, and it received so many shares, comments, and likes – and cake orders. Many, many users commented that they would happily order the same cake and have it shipped. Unfortunately, the bakery does not ship orders at this time. The co-owner of the bakery, Brent Norris, said, “We’ve been getting lots of calls from people who want the cake. The phone keeps ringing.”
It’s no surprise, really, that the cake went viral. After all, Amazon is a $134.5 billion worth of a business, making the owner and creator Jeff Bezos the richest man alive. Every second, Amazon receives 35 orders, which adds up to about 1.1 billion orders every year! And that’s just in the United States! So, expect to see quite a few more Amazon cakes in the future.
