Through the entire coronavirus pandemic, the town of San Bernardino, California, always had a light shining. That light was a little girl by the name of Lilly Bumpus. And, just recently, little Lilly managed to achieve one of her lifelong dreams – even after beating cancer! This little girl, who was never meant to make it past two, just sold the most Girl Scout cookies ever!

In total, Bumpus managed to sell 32,484. That’s right! And 5,000 of those are donation boxes, which people can pay for, but are instead donated to a local charity. The family gave the charity boxes to “fellow childhood cancer warriors in the hospitals, to help feed the homeless in our communities and to our deployed troops,” they announced on Facebook. Of course, the Bumpus family could not have done this without the community of San Bernardino. Bumpus’ mother, Trish Bauer, said that orders came in every single hour! Meanwhile, little Lilly also had a special booth outside their family home where she sold boxes. Now, the town could not feel more proud…

Making Girl Scout Community Proud

“Lilly has always been blessed with the community of supporters she’s had with her, but for the first time, the world saw she had her own voice, her own mission, her own site that is bigger than cancer,” said Lilly’s mother. “She just needed a space to do her own thing, and this was it.”

At first, when Lilly told her mother about her Girl Scout cookies goal, Trish didn’t feel too sure about it. However, through it all, the cancer survivor stood her ground, just as she always does. “She does not like somebody telling her something is not possible. When I told her at the beginning of the season how tough it would be to sell this year, she told me, ‘Nothing is impossible if everybody chose to make it possible,'” her proud mother said.

Now that she’s actually done it, Lilly can hardly believe it – and neither can the Girl Scouts of America! “I thought, ‘Wow I never knew I could do that.’ It just meant so much to me to see that huge number. It’s like the biggest number I’ve ever seen,” she said, amazed at her powers.

Believe it or not, despite the coronavirus, the cookie sales were just the start to an amazing summer of 2020 for Lilly and her family. In July, she celebrated seven years free from cancer. Now, she wants to help others achieve their big dreams! “Let my Lilly remind you today, Don’t EVER give up on your dreams. No matter how big or small. No matter if it’s for your physical or mental Health… YOU ARE WORTH IT!” the family wrote on the Facebook page, attaching a few pictures of the girl’s progress. “Keep fighting and know when YOU prove the impossible is possible, you light a way for others to follow. Be the light. Always be the light.”
