When 6-year-old Bridger Walker saved his sister from a dog attack, everyone around the world called him a hero. In order to speed along his recovery, actor Chris Evans, of Captain America fame, sent Walker quite the special gift: a real-life Captain America shield!
The Amazing Bridger Walker
When we hear stories of superhero-like bravery, we normally think of adults performing them. However, this time around, its a 6-year-old-boy from Cheyenne, Wyoming named Bridger Walker. You see, Bridger saved his little sister from a vicious dog! His aunt, Nicole Noel Walker, posted about the terrifying encounter on her Instagram. She said that the boy “saved his little sister’s life by standing between her and a charging dog. After getting bit several times on the face and head, he grabbed his sister’s hand and ran with her to keep her safe. He later said, ‘If someone had to die, I thought it should be me.’ After receiving 90 stitches (give or take) from a skilled plastic surgeon, he’s finally resting at home. We love our brave boy and want all the other superheroes to know about this latest hero who joined their ranks.”
As you might imagine, Bridger’s story quickly went viral! Over the next few days, through a few interviews with news stations, the world learned a lot more about Bridger. For instance, the little boy loves the Avengers! And when Captain America actor Chris Evans heard about that, he decided to do something in honor of Bridger…
A Real-Life Superhero
After the news reported on Bridger, Chris Evans discovered his aunt’s page. So, he uploaded a motivational speech to the boy on his own page. “Pal, you’re a hero, what you did was so brave, so selfless — your sister is so lucky to have you as a big brother. Your parents must be so proud of you,” Evans said in his video message, “Keep being the man you are, we need people like you. Hang in there, I know recovery might be tough, but based on what I’ve seen, I don’t think there’s much that can slow you down.” In the message, the star also promised to send Bridger a real Captain America shield! As you can see, the young boy adorably wore a Captain America costume while watching Evans’ video.
Meanwhile, plenty of other superhero actors also gave Bridger kudos. From Robert Downey Jr. and Brie Larson to Grant Gustin, the Flash on The CW, and Mark Ruffalo, who said that the boy is “more of man than many, many I have seen or know,” many had something to say. Thankfully, Bridger’s aunt has also kept everyone up to date on his progression!
Since that fateful day, Bridger Walker’s aunt has provided constant updates about her nephew. Recently she shared just how overwhelmed they all felt by the messages and gifts. “We’ve received tens of thousands of messages and are so overwhelmed with the outpouring of love Bridger has received. Although we haven’t had the time or manpower to respond to every post or video, please, know that we are seeing them,” she shared in the latest Instagram post. “If there are words adequate enough to express our gratitude, I do not know them. Thank you for the words of encouragement.”
