This story is a modern-day fairytale! 22 years ago, while working together at a Subway restaurant, Jordan and Jennifers Olsen, a Utah couple, met and fell in love. Now, they’ve bought the very same location from the retiring owners! The two have decided to commemorate their love by keeping the shop going and feeding the customers the best sandwiches they can make!

22 years ago, at the age of 17, Jordan Olsen started working at a Subway restaurant in Utah. However, Jordan had no idea that he would also meet the love of his life in addition to making a paycheck! Jordan says he fell in love with Jennifer, his future wife, the first time he saw her: when he showed up to his first shift in the Subway shop, and she was his veteran co-worker. “This sounds cheesy, but I peeked my head around the corner, saw the new girl making somebody a sandwich, and I was done for,” Jordan later said. “She was drop-dead gorgeous.”

After months of courting, the two finally went out on their first date – and the rest is history. They married four years later, in 2001. Now, two decades later, they thought of the perfect way to commemorate their love and dedication to each other: they decided to buy the Subway where they first met!

A Perfect Solution

The Olsens found out the owners of the Subway were about to retire and sell the franchise – and the couple knew they had to buy it. So, they took out a small business loan and purchased the place. “I told Jennifer, ‘You can be the manager and I’ll show up to help whenever you need me,” said Jordan. And Jennifer loved the idea! The couple have three daughters: Ayla, 13, Lily, 11, and Hadley, 8. As they are growing up and becoming more independent, Jennifer figures she can run the shop and come home when they return from school.

Jordan Olsen, now 39, admits the idea might sound “crazy” to someone else. “But to us, it made perfect sense. We’ve always been really fond of that Subway where we met. And the sandwiches aren’t bad, either.”

“I’m The Luckiest Guy Ever”

The Olsens purchased the Subway in August 2019, officially opening under their management on December 30! Now, they have twenty employees and know their customers well. “We have regulars who have been coming here for years, and they’re all happy for us. This place is kind of like a ‘mom and pop’ Subway, so it’s been fun to get to know a lot of the customers and learn about their lives,” Jennifer said.

The two still make each other’s favorite sandwiches: for Jordan, a turkey, ham, and bacon melt with Swiss and extra vinegar. For Jennifer, roast beef and provolone on Italian with the works. Even though it’s been 22 years, Mrs. Olsen said, “I still steal a look at Jennifer and tell her that I’m smitten. Honestly, I feel like I’m the luckiest guy ever.”
