Earlier this year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they would “step back” from the British Royal family. Apparently, the couple wants to become “financially independent,” while also enjoying a more private life in the United States and Canada with their son Archie. Plus, no longer part of the Royal Family, Harry and Meghan will no longer need to follow strict royal rules that limit their personal freedom.
However, leaving the Royal Family comes with plenty of downsides as well. From reduced bank accounts to stripped titles and much more, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision has also cost them numerous royal privileges…
1. A Surprising Exit

Few expected Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to step down from their royal duties. However, some called it early on, given the way the British press has treated Markle since the wedding. In fact, some of her British friends even tried to warn her! “When I first met my now-husband…my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great. But you shouldn’t do it, because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’,” Markle said in a recent interview. “I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a stiff upper lip. I really tried,” she continued.
“The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks, after so many years of challenges. There really was no other option.” Prince Harry added. Still, no one saw them leaving the family entirely!
