Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, many older celebrities are joining social media for the first time, including Jane Fonda. Recently, on TikTok, the iconic actresses recreated some of her famous ’80s workout routines!
Jane Fonda Joins TikTok
The coronavirus pandemic has changed everyone’s lives in so many ways. In particular, the disease has radically changed the way we all work out. Quarantines, lockdown, and social distancing mean no more hikes or trips to the gym. Thankfully, actresses Jane Fonda, America’s original celebrity fitness guru, has the solution!
That’s right, Fonda, the 82-year-old actress, activist, and former fitness instructor, has returned with all new aerobics routines for those stuck at home! In case you’ve missed them, the actress has shared her new videos via TikTok, the latest, hottest social media app. TikTok allows users to share short videos of themselves doing, well, anything! From dancing and viral challenges to cute animal videos, you can find everything on TikTok. Now, that includes workout routines with the legendary Fonda. As her first video, Jane Fonda’s Workout, debut in 1982, she now has one of the longest-lasting fitness careers ever!
Fonda’s ’80s Fitness Routines
Older generations are already familiar with Fonda as a fitness queen. After all, her original workout tape sold over 2 million copies! However, these new TikTok videos introduce Fonda’s aerobic exercises to a whole new audience, mainly millennials and Gen Z-ers. As such, the actress started her first video off with an introduction of sorts: “My name is Jane Fonda, and I’m going to bring back the Jane Fonda Workout during this home sequestration, so come on and do it with me.”
Fonda surprised everyone by looking just as toned and limber as ever, despite forty years passing since her first video releases. After the workout video, Fonda also used her newfound platform to plead for a cause close to her heart…
A True Activist
Over the past few years, Fonda has managed to juggle careers as an actress and as an activist. Specifically, she has led many in the fight against global warming through her Fire Drill Fridays, where she and others protest in front of the White House every Friday. In fact, these demonstrations have led to Fonda’s arrest on more than a few occasions. I want to put my body on the line, I want to get out of my comfort zone in a way that is regular and present and show people that this is what we need to do now,” the actress said in an NBC interview last November.
So, Fonda also used her new TikTok videos to plug her upcoming virtual Fire Drill Fridays. “You know what, there are too many workouts happening right now on television and on computers. What I would like you to do with me is to work out with me for the planet,” she explained in the video. “There’s a climate crisis that’s a real emergency, and so whether you’re on your couch or your yoga mat, will you join me for the virtual Fire Drill Fridays? The future needs you. I need you.”
