Winning the lottery always seems like a dream. In fact, the odds are so low, one man from the Manitoba providence of Canada just assumed he did not win after buying a lotto ticket. Almost three months later, he realized that he had won! Thankfully, the man picked up his massive, $20 million win just in time! Read on to find out more…
An Old Lotto Ticket
For months, Jerry Knott from Manitoba, a providence in Canada, had no idea he was a multi-millionaire. That’s right! After purchasing a Lotto Max lotto ticket from a convenience store, he forgot all about it. Afterward, the ticket remained in Knott’s jacket pocket for nearly three months. Then, one day he found the old ticket by total chance when he put on the jacket again. On a whim, he decided to check out the numbers of the months-old lottery ticket – and that’s when Knott found out he had won! And not just some small prize either. The man from Manitoba won a whopping $20 million! In fact, at first, Knott did not believe the win.
“I saw a two and a bunch of zeroes and thought, ‘Cool! I won $20,000,'” Knott said after his big win. “The store retailer looked at me with wide-eyes and said, ‘This is the missing ticket!'” Soon enough, Knott realized what the clerk meant by the “missing ticket” phrase. “I didn’t know what she was talking about until she scanned it again and I saw there were a few more zeroes than I had originally thought… That’s 20 and six zeroes – $20 million!”
As you might imagine, Knott could not believe his eyes! Just like that, a simple trip to a convenience store became one of the best decisions the man ever made. Now, Knott needs to decide what to do with his massive winnings…
What To Do With $20 Million Lottery Winnings
Of course, everyone now wants to know what Knott will do with his lottery winnings! Well, after paying his taxes, he plans to give back to his family and community. All thanks to one old lotto ticket, Knott will not only be able to give his family a fantastic life, but he can also achieve another lifelong dream: opening a treatment center.
“A while ago my father set up some reserve status land on Big Stone Lake,” Knott explained. “My brother and I decided to build some cottages on the lake to be used as a treatment center or a wilderness experience.” Thankfully, the winnings will help him achieve this incredible goal. “We were inspired by all of the big companies that have come up North to build remote fly-in fishing resorts. We thought, ‘If they can do it without even knowing the land, we definitely can too!”
Additionally, Knott wants to give a portion of the winnings back to his community. He would like the money to help his hometown develop a new lake and support local wildlife. Finally, Knott plans to build more homes to invite more people to live in his wonderful town. “I’m looking forward to building another five cottages to expand our dream,” Knott said. “It’s nice to know we will be able to put money into something that will better our community.”
