This is the time of year we all love to believe in Santa and Christmas miracles. And while Ol’ Kris Kringle may just be a legend, Christmas miracles do happen! Earlier this month, Tyler Perry and Kid Rock decided to make a Christmas miracle a Christmas reality. So, they gave thousands of people an wonderful early Christmas present, paying off hundreds of layaway items at Walmart! Read on to find out more about his incredible gesture!
Tyler Perry And Kid Rock Paying It Forward
Tyler Perry – creator and star of the Madea series – uploaded a wonderful post to his Instagram page, where he shared that he had paid over $430,000 for dozens of layaway items in a Walmart, in Atlanta. In total, the star helped out more than 1,500 people! Perry said in the video, “I know it’s hard times and a lot of people are struggling. I’m just really really grateful to be able to be in a situation to do this. So God bless you. Go get your stuff.”
The best part of all? The actor/director made it all an incredible surprise. Before announcing, he paid off all the items that the Atlanta Walmart had listed under layaway on December 7th. When people go to pick up their items, they’ll only need to pay one penny!
Tyler Perry Inspired Kid Rock To Do The Same
In a statement, a spokesman for Walmart said Perry made an “unbelievable difference” to dozens upon dozens of families. She also added that customers are filled with “excitement and joy.” This generous gesture came after the owner of the New Orleans Saints, Gail Benson, paid over $100,000 for over 400 layaway items in New Orleans. The Christmas spirit of giving seems quite contagious, as Perry’s gesture led another famous gentleman to pay for hundreds of layaway Christmas gifts – Kid Rock!
A few days after Perry’s incredible actions, Kid Rock tweeted, “@tylerperry Great idea! I followed your lead and paid off the layaway at my local Walmart in Nashville. Merry Christmas and God Bless You.” The 47-year-old singer paid over $81,000 for layaway items in a Walmart store in Nashville, Tenessee!
Tom Meyer, the Nashville Walmart manager, said that the singer called the store, saying he wanted to “spread some holiday cheer.” Kid Rock’s manager came in the same day and gave the store a huge check for the layaway items, and customers were shocked and thankful.
For all those donating and helping families throughout the holidays, thank you! Sharing and spreading love these days is so important. If you’d like to pay it forward as well by donating – as much as your lifestyle permits – here’s a great list of charities for you to choose from for the holidays. Merry Christmas!
