Facing down one life-threatening disease requires a lot of bravery. Facing down two? That requires something more. When she was only 11 years old, young Victoria Arlen started to inexplicably exhibit unusual medical symptoms. Afterward, she quickly fell into a vegetative state, where she was locked inside her own body. Trapped inside herself, Victoria’s doctors told her parents that she would most likely die. When she did emerge from her coma, she was paralyzed and could barely speak.
Victoria Arlen’s disease, however, was just the beginning. Her road to recovery, her journey to where she is today, is an inspiring story of one strong-willed young woman overcoming the most challenging of circumstances.
1. A Regular Girl
Victoria Arlen was just an ordinary girl from Exeter, New Hampshire. Growing up, the most unusual thing about her was being part of a triplet. Arlen and her two brothers had very normal lives as children. They went to school, played around in the backyard pool, and fought the way only siblings do.
Victoria was an energetic, naturally competitive child. She liked being in the outdoors and playing outside. She especially enjoyed dancing and had a good sense of rhythm. Her parents knew that Victoria would grow up to lead a healthy, fulfilling life.
