Over the holidays, we always enjoy tales of incredible acts done by humans to their fellow kind. So, as you take down the Christmas tree and put away the decorations, enjoy one last holiday tale to warm your heart. Over the holidays, a waitress from Georgia was working her usual weekend shift, where everything seemed normal. Well, until she found out that a party of eight left her a $1000 “tip” for the holidays!
The Waitress’ Incredible “Tip”
Just a few days before Christmas Eve, Daryl Collett, from Milledgeville, Georgia, found herself working her usual weekend shift at Ole’ Chobys Restaurant. While being away from your family is never easy, Collet is always a hard worker. Plus, she needs to be! Collet has a three-year-old at home, a little boy named Cash. So, the single mother works two jobs to give her boy the best life possible!
While Ole’ Chobys Restaurant often finds itself packed on the weekend, the weekend before Christmas was unusually packed. Still, Collett handled the crowds with ease, not expecting any surprises. That all changed when the waitress went to clear a table, where a party of eight had just sat. There, she found a $1000 “tip,” with the most heartwarming note attached. Collett felt even more shocked when she learned the story behind the incredible gesture…
“It Must Be Daryl”
Once the waitress found the tip, the restaurant management informed her the guests had planned it all out! The day before, one of the diners called to reserve a table – and said they wanted to specifically help out Collett with some extra holiday “cheer.” In a post uploaded to Facebook by the restaurant, a representative explained that the caller said, “Our server must be Daryl.”
“We are so blessed to have her on our staff. Merry Christmas to everyone, this is what the season is all about!! Thank you to the table of people who made this possible, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!,” the post continued.
The general manager of Ole’ Chobys, Kayla Currie, said in an interview that the guests felt inspired by a story they read online about other people’s generosity during the holiday season. So, they decided to do the same for one hard-working waitress! “Someone said they saw a similar thing on Facebook, and they wanted to do it for someone in need,” said Currie.
A Blessing For Collett And Her Son
It took the waitress a couple of minutes to collect herself; she simply couldn’t believe it. “Literally the best feeling ever. I was shocked and happy and, like, I’m so emotional. I started crying,” she said in an interview.
The $1000 tip is a magnificent gift for the hard-working mom. Collett works at a bank during the week and takes shifts on the weekend to support herself and her son. The week beforehand, Collett missed a week of work because Cash, her three-year-old, was sick. So, the tip couldn’t have come at a better time. “I live paycheck-to-paycheck. I’ve been so stressed out with Christmas and knowing that my paycheck is going to be short, so this was a huge blessing,” Collett said.
