This woman put together a truly fantastic party. She prepared a special cake, bought colorful balloons, had a photo shoot, and even invited a few guests over! However, here’s the strange part: the party wasn’t for anyone. Instead, it jokingly celebrated the one-year anniversary of unfinished road work in front of her house!
Celebrating The Worst One Year Anniversary
Some of us loser our temper or feel depressed when we’re dealt a rough hand. Natalie Harvey from Lakeview, Louisiana, meanwhile, decided to get highly creative with her frustration. We can all understand her anger: for over a year now, the road in front Harvey’s home has remained blocked. In fact, the workers have taken so long to finish the road work that the young woman threw an anniversary party for the construction site. That’s right!
Afterward, Harvey posted pictures of the bitterly sarcastic event on social media. “Happy first birthday to our street construction! It was one year ago this week when they first began to rip up our street,” she wrote in the now-viral Facebook post. “One year later, half the street is impassable — just last week, we had a massive, 6-foot-deep hole! To celebrate, I created a replica of the street scene in cake form: two layers of chocolate sponge with peanut butter frosting.”
A Road Work Cake
When some asked for clarification, Harvey explained the situation future. “Our driveways on my side were blocked for about 3 months this summer,” she said in a follow-up post. “Now the other side is blocked, so nearly every house on the opposite side of the street from mine, has their driveways blocked.” At first, Harvey could not figure out what was taking so long with the roadwork. However, after spending a few days in quarantine watching, she thinks the chaotic construction workers are to blame.
Specifically, Harvey says that the crew cannot settle on a proper work schedule. She says that she’s even witnessed them abandoning their jobs in the middle of the day! “As an example, they’ll work every day for a week, then there will be 2-3 weeks with nothing. The work has definitely picked up in the last couple of weeks. But you never know when it’s going to stop and when it’s going to start back up again,” Harvey said.
Now Harvey’s Facebook post and party have gone viral! But will it accomplish anything? Only time will tell…
Supportive Comments From Afar
So fact, Harvey’s Facebook post and pictures have garnered over a thousand shares and almost two thousand likes. Meanwhile, a neighbor noticed and decided to weigh in on the matter. As you might suspect, she’s also very frustrated with the lack of progress. “That’s my house. Unfortunately they broke a sewerage main right in front of us. Otherwise it might have finished a little quicker. At least there’s no more sewer flushing into the street! Progress,” they explained in a comment.
Of course, many didn’t care much about the actual cause of the construction. They just came to support Harvey’s retribution. “The best part of this cake is the depiction of 1 man working while the others stand around and watch. You’re my hero,” one of the commenters said, cheering Harvey on.
