While we all had our eyes on BTS going on a hiatus as a band, another Korean celebrity, Lisa from BLACKPINK received a VMAs win for her solo project. She made history as the first Korean soloist to do so!
Lisa From BLACKPINK Receives Well-Deserved VMAs Win
The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards were full of different Korean celebrities on August 28, with nominations including various K-pop releases of all possible genres. Yet, Lisa from BLACKPINK stole the spotlight, becoming the first solo act to receive a VMAs win for the Best K-Pop Video. That’s right, “Lalisa” came first, overthrowing “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)” by BTS, “LOCO” by Itzy, “HOT” by SEVENTEEN, “MANIAC” by Stray Kids, and “The Feels” by TWICE. But it’s far from the only historical moment. As a group, BLACKPINK made their American awards show debut performance live in Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. “Pink Venom,” the group’s new single got to premiere that day, too. Moreover, the K-pop artists became the first to win the new award for Best Metaverse Performance.
“I want to thank MTV for this wonderful honor,” Lisa said while accepting her award. “BLINKs, I mean, you’re like the most important ones. Thank you so much for making this happen. I love you,” she continued while the other members, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé cheered for their bandmate. Lisa also thanked her collaborators – 24, Teddy Park, and Bekuh Boom. She stated that they aided her release and made it “so much more special.” Of course, the rapper included her members at the end of the speech, shouting them out for continuous support.
Trending On Billboard And Twitter
Lisa and BLACKPINK’s awards are well-deserved. “Lalisa” is a recent solo debut that received an outstanding amount of love since the first day. In fact, it was the first song to chart on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart. Billboard explained that this is the only song to appear on every Hot Trending Songs chart since the list’s launch. Furthermore, it hit a no. 3 ranking upon release. Then, it moved to no. 2 just as quickly. Now, we can see Lisa boasting about her win on social media, including in various Instagram posts holding the award in her hands and smiling confidently. Other pictures show her posing in a slick black outfit in front of the VMAs banner.
Right after the win, BLACKPINK fans, or Blinks, made Lisa and her group’s achievement trend on every social media, including Twitter. “Lalisa Takes Over VMAs” and “#LisaHitsMTVStage” came first in trending just a few minutes after the musician received her award! Such a crazy dedication! Surprisingly enough, her groupmates didn’t receive their awards yet. Lisa became the third BLACKPINK member to have a solo debut. Jennie was the first to debut, releasing the iconic “SOLO” in November 2018. It still plays on the streets and in clubs, despite being almost four years old. Rosé’s second solo project was more melancholic with her single album R. Her singles “On The Ground” and “Gone” came out in March 2021.
Now, we just have to wait for Jisoo’s work and the four solos will be complete! Perhaps, she’ll be second to receive a VMAs win.
