Around the world, the novel coronavirus, and its related disease, COVID-19, has infected thousands, with numbers rising every day. These are unprecedented times in the modern era. However, if the coronavirus has taught us one thing, it’s that no one is immune to the virus. The disease does not discriminate at all and can infect anyone, even celebrities and famous athletes.

Last week, famous actor Tom Hanks and his wife, country singer Rita Wilson, announced they had tested positive for coronavirus. Of course, the news shocked many Americans. No longer did the coronavirus seem like something only people in other countries needed to worry about it. Thankfully, the news sparked many to start practicing “social distancing” more readily and seriously. Since their diagnosis, Hanks and Rita have regularly updated their fans about their situation. Currently, they are out of the hospital and doing “okay” in self-quarantine. Meanwhile, there are also many other athletes and celebrities with coronavirus…

Of course, famously, NBA player Rudy Gobert also tested positive for coronavirus, after first joking that it wasn’t that serious. In fact, the photo above shows Gobert touching microphones, proving to reporters he did not fear the new disease. Just days later, he became infected. Meanwhile, he also infected at least one fellow Utah Jazz team member, Donovan Mitchell, who reportedly feels furious with Gobert. Other NBA players with COVID-19 include star Kevin Durant, alongside four other Brooklyn Nets players.

In the world of film and television, actor Idris Elba became the next major start to announce an infection, after Hanks. “This morning I tested positive for Covid 19,” he wrote on Twitter. “I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus. Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing. No panic.” Other stars with coronavirus include Kristofer Hivju, who played Thurmond on Game of Thrones. “Sorry to say that I, today, have tested positive for COVID19, Coronavirus,” he shared with fans. “My family and I are self-isolating at home for as long as it takes. We are in good health – I only have mild symptoms of a cold.”

Helping Out

In the past week, plenty of other celebrities have started helping with the pandemic. Stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, among many others, asked their fans to follow the new health guidelines and stay home. While some have called these tips out of touch, as it’s easy for millionaires to tell those who live paycheck-to-paycheck to stay home, most have applauded them.

Of course, not going to work means no pay for hundreds of thousands of families. Meanwhile, no school means thousands, if not millions, of children could potentially miss meals. In response, celebrities like Hailey Bieber and Bella and Gigi Hadid have donated to food banks and similar organizations. You can also help by donating to a GoFundMe page like this one! By doing so, if you can, you will help those most impacted by the coronavirus and the current economic recession.
