The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is one of the most famous music events in the world. Every year, some of the biggest acts in the world perform alongside some of the newest, hottest stars. This year did not disappoint: from Ariana Grande to Kanye West, Coachella 2019 delivered with fantastic music and photos. Here are all the highlights from Coachella 2019…
One Of The Biggest Festivals In The World
The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival takes place every year in Indio, California, and celebrates music, art, and fashion. Without a doubt, Coachella is one of the biggest music festivals in the world. The festival attracts people from all over the world: from young starlets like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber to the ordinary Joe. So, it’s no wonder that over 250,000 people attended Coachella 2019!
The festival goes on for two consecutive weekends, which share the same schedule. Every year, massive hitmakers headline huge, influential shows. Additionally, Coachella gives a platform for smaller, upcoming artists. It is also a very “Instagrammable” event; YouTube and Instagram influencers prepare for it for months – beginning with outfits, a place to stay, photo opportunities, and more. In short: it sets the tone of the music and fashion world for the entire year.
The 2019 “Arichella”
Ariana Grande, one of the biggest names in music right now, headlined on both Fridays of the festival. Grande is on the road and made Coachella 2019 part of her Sweetener / Thank U, Next world tour. Last year, Beyoncé headlined Coachella and became the first black female artist to do so. Some even said that she gave the greatest Coachella performance, ever. It’s hard to top “Beychella,” but Grande did not disappoint: she brought *NSYNC on stage, where they sang a medley of their hits, and also invited Justin Bieber onstage. Bieber hadn’t performed in two years, and the shocked crowd welcomed him with cheers and screams of love.
Coachella 2019 – Girl Power
Ariana Grande was not the only female powerhouse to own the stage of Coachella 2019. There’s no doubt: this year’s festival was all about girl power. And not just girl power, but international girl power! The all-girl K-Pop group (that’s Korean Pop, in case you didn’t know), Blackpink, also performed. They are the first non-American group who’ve performed at the music festival, and the crowds were pumped. As you can see from the photo above, the crowd loved it, and most stayed for the full performance.
Another huge female artist who put on a marvelous show is 17-year-old Billie Eilish. Many fans and critics say it seemed like she had the most fun on stage, interacting with the audience and giving a great show.
Ye’s Sunday Service
Kanye West performed during the second weekend of the festival. Instead of a typical performance, however, West provided audiences with one of his famous “Sunday Services.” His family – wife Kim Kardashian West, their kids, and a few Kardashian-Jenners came to support him. It’s one of the most curious and mesmerizing performances you could watch. West stands at the top of a hill, with his singers and artists surrounding him in a circle, while the crowd watches on from the bottom of the hill.
At the beginning of January 2019, West began putting on these “Sunday Services” performances, first at their home, and then in outside venues. It is a religious ceremony, celebrating West’s faith. It also consists of musicians and artists and is “all about celebrating music,” its African origins, and its religious value.
See you all next year, at Coachella 2020!
