Even though it’s been some time, most of us still think of Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones. And when we think of Momoa/Drogo, the first thing that pops into our head is his marvelous beard and hair. After all, his gorgeous locks are both women and men’s #hairgoals! However, recently, the actor decided to take a stance on environmental issues and raised awareness – by shaving off his signature beard, after seven years! Here’s the before, after, and the internet’s response.
Jason Momoa Says “Goodbye Drogo”
The sun rises from the East, pineapple pizza is gross, and Jason Momoa aka Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones has a beautiful mane of hair and an iconic beard. The world continues to turn. But does it? The former Thrones star recently decided to shave off his beard. Except it wasn’t for personal reasons or for an upcoming role. Instead, Momoa shaved his beard for a great cause!
The 39-year-old star uploaded earlier this month a touching video to his YouTube page. At first, it’s hard to tell what the video will be about. You can see the Aquaman actor hiking, surrounded by plastic trash. He says the last time he shaved was probably 2012. “I just want to do this to raise awareness that plastics are killing our planet — and I think I have a solution,” he says in the four-minute video. So this year, Momoa decided to attempt to make a change and care for our planet by shaving his beard!
“A Change For The Better”
You might wonder how shaving a beard helps the environment. Well, the Hollywood star decided to team up with an environmental organization called Ball Corporation. The beard-shaving video also works as promotion for the Ball Corp.’s most recent campaign, which promotes packaging beverages that are made of 100% recycled plastic.
Throughout the video, Momoa bids goodbye to his beard and acknowledges all the characters he portrayed which became iconic, largely in part due to his great facial hair. “I’m shaving this beast off, It’s time to make a change. A change for the better…for my kids, your kids, the world. Let’s make a positive change for the health of our planet. Let’s clean up our oceans our land,” the actor said.
Support From Fans & Colleagues
Surprisingly, responses to this clean-shaven Khal Drogo remained mainly positive. Some comments were hilarious, with one YouTube user writing:
“Me: (needs to shave) walks to my bathroom.
Jason Momoa: (needs to shave) walks to the middle of the desert.”
Momoa’s Instagram post where he shared the video was flooded with support from Hollywood A-listers who praised his actions. Henry Cavill, aka Superman, wrote, “YES brother!!! Preach it.”
In recent years, many celebrities have used social media to raise awareness of environmental issues, including endangered animals, the real threat of global warming, and more. If you’d like to learn more about Jason Momoa’s cause, you can click here.
