Michael Bublé, the legendary Canadian singer, broke many fans’ hearts recently after making a strange, confusing statement. During an interview, Bublé announced that he was “retiring from the business.” Then, shortly after, his management teamsaid he wasn’t. What’s the truth? Here are the rumors, facts, and everything you need to know about the singer and his incredible family.

Michael Bublé’s Last Interview?

In an interview conducted by the Daily Mail earlier this month, it was reported the award-winning singer might quit his music career altogether. Why? Because Michael Bublé’s five-year-old son’s, Noah’s, battle with liver cancer. After opening up about the illness, music, and his family, Bublé suddenly said, “This is my last interview. I’m retiring from the business. I’ve made the perfect record, and now I can leave at the very top.”

The way Bublé ended the interview caused even more confusion among fans. The Daily Mail asked the singer about his current album, Love. Bublé and his family are dealing with the terrible illness, but the singer said that he learned huge life lessons, and felt overwhelmed by the support they received. “I felt a debt of gratitude, deeper than I can explain, to the millions of people all over the world who prayed for us and showed us compassion,” Bublé said. “There’s never a better time for music than in the wake of such darkness.” Many felt it was a rather abrupt, sad ending to a promotional interview.

The Rumors Were Flying

Many took Michael Bublé’s words at face value, and why wouldn’t they? However, Bublé did not have everyone convinced. In addition to his gifted singing voice, Bublé is famous for having a great sense of humor. Friends and family say he is able to make people around him laugh even in difficult situations. Some thought he was just being sarcastic and trying to humor himself with his remarks. Let’s face it, it’s incredibly difficult talking about your son’s battle with cancer. Making himself feel better with a small joke would not be out of line. Others thought he was sarcastically calling Love a “perfect record,” joking that he should retire at his peak.

Regardless of why Bublé said what he did, managers were quick to silence the rumors. One of the singer’s reps told the media, “[Michael Bublé] is NOT retiring. Definitely not.”

Little Noah’s Battle With Cancer

It makes sense that fans took his closing interview remarks seriously. When Noah was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2016 (when he was just three-years-old), Bublé canceled all future concerts and award show hosting. Bublé and his wife, Argentinian model and actress Luisana Lopilato, put everything on hold while they dealt with the illness.

However, in dark times there are still great sources of light. Bublé and Lopilato welcomed a second son, Elias, in 2016. And the family is expecting a third child, due this December. These days, little Noah’s health is progressing, and doctors expect a bright future for the brave boy.  Bublé said, in his typical sarcastic and loving matter – “It’s my boy. He’s a superhero, he doesn’t need to relive it over and again. But I’ve been to hell. And you know what, hell seems like a really nice place to vacation compared to where we’ve been.” More recently, the singer discussed his son at length with James Corden during an emotional episode of Carpool Karaoke.

Raising a child with a life-long sickness is never easy. We wish Noah, Bublé, Lopilato, and the rest of the family the best of luck now and in the future.
