The first trailer for Disney’s Mighty Ducks reboot, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, has premiered. However, the Ducks’ return was not as all expected – this time around they’re the bad guys. That’s right! Still, some familiar faces that are sure to bring about nostalgia have returned…
Mighty Ducks Transform Into Antagonists
As stated, instead of the Hawks from the original trilogy, this time around, the Mighty Ducks themselves have become the bad guys. In the years since the Ducks initially climbed the hockey hierarchy, with Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) as their head coach, they became obsessed with staying on top. So they fired Bombay and became the very thing they once fought against. The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers trailer begins with the new Ducks as bullies, kicking out 12-year-old Evan Morrow for lack of skills.
The trailer promises that, over ten episodes, Evan and his mother Alex will build a new team to show the Ducks that hockey’s about having fun! But don’t think that it’s all new people in this reboot. The one and only Gordon Bombay will return, with actor Emilio Estevez reprising his role. This time around, he’ll take on the new team, facing off against his old Ducks. Estevez says fans of the original will love the new interpretation! Meanwhile, a host of other famous actor’s will join Estevez in the remake.
Old Cast In The Reboot
Estevez says that he worked hard to ensure that this version of The Mighty Ducks is the best yet. At first, he didn’t feel that they could surpass the original ’90s movies. However, after a few long conversations with the executive producer of the series, Steven Brill, the actor felt sure they were not merely “cash[ing] in on the nostalgia.” In the end, Estevez feels confident the brought back the magic of the old movies. “I think that’s ultimately what we’ve done,” he said.
Of course, Estevez is far from the only stars in this new Ducks reboot. Gilmore Girls fans will be happy to know that actress Lauren Graham will take on the role of Alex Morrow, who helps build the new team with Estevez’s Bombay. Meanwhile, child actors Brady Noon, Swayam Bhatia, and Taegen Burns, among others, will fill out the new cast of young hockey players. Of course, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will only be one of the fantastic offerings coming to Disney’s streaming service, Disney+, this year…
