A lot of people know RiRi aka Rihanna Fenty, the Barbados native, and beauty, as a singer. Her last album release was in 2016 – “Anti” – which featured the Billboard hit Work. Ever since then, she hasn’t blessed us with new music. But it’s not like she went off the grid – in fact, quite the opposite, just not in the music business. Since 2016, she has been hard at work designing, modeling, collaborating and making history. She has recently proved herself as a savvy, passionate businesswoman. So this is what Rihanna has been up to since 2016:

Let’s go back in time to 2014 – the year Rihanna started rising in the fashion industry. She became the creative director of the fashion sportswear Puma, as head of women’s wear. The first release of her line was in the Fall of 2015, and it sold out in three hours. She presented her first solo clothing line at New York Fashion Week in 2016, and her second clothing line in Paris Fashion Week. It received critical acclaim from many important fashion news outlets – even Vogue magazine stated “…Rihanna… has kept one step ahead.” Surprised? Not us. Our girl Rihanna has always been a fashion icon.

Expanding even further into the fashion world, Ms. Fenty collaborated with high-end designer brand Manolo Blahnik for a denim shoe line. That’s right – denim. Shoe. Line. In spring 2016, the world was introduced to “Denim Desserts” – the Rihanna x Manolo collaboration which featured six limited edition styles designed by the two. According to the artist, she creates for the everyday woman we see on the street and wants to make head-turning pieces. As Rihanna is always on top of things and is very hands-on – she modeled the shoes herself on the cover of Vogue UK.

Singer, model, fashion designer, and actress: our girl Rihanna does it all. The Barbados beauty was cast in the much-anticipated Ocean’s spin-off, where she plays the role of Nine Ball, a tech genius. The plot is similar to the other Ocean‘s movies: a group of people – this time, all women – plan on crashing a huge event (the Met Gala) to steal something rare and expensive (probably jewelry). The star-studded cast also features Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Anne Hathaway, and Helena Bonham-Carter. The movie will be released in June 2018, and we’ve been counting down the days.

In the of summer 2017, Rihanna released a full line of makeup items, including a line of foundations – with a range of 40 shades.  Why is this a revolutionary? No company had ever released so many shades. Both drugstore beauty brands and high-end companies usually release 10-15 shades per launch.

Moreover, Fenty products are available for sale at Sephora, unlike colossal makeup brand Kylie Cosmetics (which you can buy exclusively online). Often people of color are overlooked by major makeup brands as they usually don’t release enough dark shades. Rihanna took care of everyone. Since this release, many companies (such as Kylie Cosmetics and Cover Girl) have released makeup products with a wider variety of shades, to try to compete with Fenty Beauty, which is now worth $245 million. Can you really compete with the queen, though?
