Iconic actress Kelly Preston, wife of actor John Travolta, has passed away due to breast cancer, at the age of 57-years-old. More than just an incredible actress, Preston was also a fabulous mother and inspiration to millions. Rest in peace.
Road To Acting
Kelly Preston passed away on the morning of July 12, 2020, due to complications from breast cancer. “Choosing to keep her fight private, she had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, supported by her closest family and friends,” a family representative stated shortly after her passing. “She was a bright, beautiful, and loving soul who cared deeply about others and who brought life to everything she touched. Her family asks for your understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Preston knew, from her early teens, she needed to act in life. So, right out of high school she started studying acting at USC. From there, Preston earned small roles starting in 1983, in exploitation and horror films like 10 to Midnight and Christine. Just two years later, the actress won her first lead role in the teen comedy Mischief. Afterward, Preston shot to international stardom thanks to a string of hits in the ’80s and ’90s which included Twins (1988), Jerry Maguire (1996), and For Love of the Game (1999). Although unknown at the time, her role as Victoria Gotti, opposite her husband, in Gotti will be Preston’s final role.
Kelly Preston: More Than An Actress
Of course, Kelly Preston also gained quite a bit of fame for her marriage to fellow star, actor John Travolta. Their love story began after Preston had several high-profile relationships with the likes of George Clooney and Charlie Sheen, when she and Travolta worked on the 1987 film Experts. He proper on New Year’s Eve in 1991, and they married later that same year. Over the years, they remained one of Hollywood’s greatest love stories, never faltering.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that my beautiful wife Kelly has lost her two-year battle with breast cancer,” Travolta shared in a touching post. “She fought a courageous fight with the love and support of so many…My family and I will forever be grateful to her doctors and nurses at MD Anderson Cancer Center, all the medical centers that have helped, as well as her many friends and loved ones who have been by her side. Kelly’s love and life will always be remembered.”
As you might know, this is the second tragedy the Travolta experience has faced in less than a decade. In 2009, Preston and Travolta’s son, Jett Travolta, died while the family was on a vacation in the Bahamas. Thankfully, like then, the family has plenty of friends and family to lean on in these hard times…
