Royal news lovers sure got their fill this past year! And now, we’ve got the cherry on top: last week, Duchess Meghan gave birth to her and Prince Harry’s firstborn, a healthy, royal baby boy. Then two days later, the new parents revealed the baby’s name, along with some great photos. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest addition to the royal family.
Welcome A Royal Baby
As announced last fall, Duchess Meghan became pregnant last year with her and Prince Harry’s first child. A few months later, the family revealed the royal baby would be a boy! Ever since, we’ve all waited patiently for the birth of Queen Elizabeth’s sixth successor in line.
Well, our patience paid off! On beautiful, sunny Monday, May 6th, 2019, Duchess Meghan gave birth to a healthy baby boy. However, unlike Prince William and Kate, the younger couple did not hurry to reveal the baby. Like most mothers, Meghan wanted some time to herself before heading out into the public. Thankfully, days after the birth, Prince Harry and Meghan came out, gave a short statement, and took some photos!
“I Have The Best Two Guys In The World”
During the statement, Meghan wore a white button-down dress, with her baby bump still clearly showing. Many praised her online, saying she showed what a “real” post-pregnancy body looks like. Prince Harry and Meghan looked delighted and a little tired (as any new parents would).
Meghan said of the newborn, “He has the sweetest temperament, he’s really calm. He’s been the dream.” They laughed, and Prince Harry said, “I don’t know who he gets that from.” Meghan added, “It’s magic, it’s pretty amazing. I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”
As always, the Royals are very, very busy. As such, unfortunately, Prince Charles and Her Royal Majesty were abroad when Meghan gave birth. Still, they released a statement, stating, “We couldn’t be more delighted at the news, and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return.” Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, said she felt “overjoyed at the arrival of her first grandchild,” and is waiting for the arrival of the Prince, Meghan and the baby in Frogmore Cottage, their permanent home.
The Big Name Reveal
While followers desperately wanted to see the baby, they also wanted to know its name. Royal baby name reveals are usually a big deal! Traditionally, Royals pick their names from a pool of names, consisting of names like Arthur and Alexander.
However, Prince Harry and Meghan, always bucking the trend, selected an “ordinary” name: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Rumors are that Archie is Meghan’s cat’s name, who recently passed away. Royal news journalists said the name Archie was a total surprise and doesn’t have “royal” connotations. Little Archie will not receive a title (such as Lord), as his father, Prince Harry, isn’t the Crown Prince. Archie will be Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
Title or no title, we wish Meghan, Harry, and little Archie all the best, and we look forward to seeing the young family evolve and grow together!
