It’s been an incredible year for Prince Harry and Meghan: they’ve welcomed their firstborn, renovated their home, and have worked almost non-stop with various charities. In case you haven’t been keeping up, here’s your royal update!
Royal Update #1: Harry And Meghan Plan On Having Two Kids, “Maximum”
Earlier this month, Prince Harry interviewed Jane Goodall, a wildlife activist and chimpanzee expert, for a special edition of British Vogue. During the conversation, the two started talking about the effect of the population on the world. During this segment, Harry shared that he and Meghan on having two kids, total, max. This past May, Duchess Meghan gave birth to their firstborn, Archie.
The reason being, according to the prince, is the future of our planet. He said, “What we need to remind everybody is: these are things that are happening now. We are already living in it. We are the frog in the water, and it’s already been brought to the boil. Which is terrifying.” Harry said, referring to the limited sources of our planets and global warming.
Royal Update #2: Duchess Meghan: Special Guest Editor At Vogue
So, why did Prince Harry interview Jane Goodall for Vogue? Well, the magazine picked Duchess Meghan Markle to become the guest editor for their September issue. The September issue is a big deal in the fashion world, as its the first and launches the trends for the upcoming seasons.
The issue will be titled “Forces of Change,” and will focus on women who “break barriers.” The cover will feature 15 powerful women from around the world. Included on the cover are teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg and New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern. However, Markle elected not to but herself on the cover, as she felt it would be a “boastful thing to do.” Still, the Duchess helped with nearly every aspect of the issue. In fact, she had a particular goal in mind while working. Markle wants “to take the year’s most-read fashion issue and steer its focus to the values, causes, and people making impact in the world today.”
Markle also used the platform to discuss her patronage, Smart Works. Smart Works is also the reason that Prince Harry And Meghan unfollowed everyone on Instagram…
Royal Update #3: Prince Harry And Meghan Unfollowed Everyone On Instagram
Recently, Harry and Meghan launched their official royal Instagram, and the internet went crazy. Then, last week, followers noticed that the couple’s followed accounts dropped down to zero. However, keen royal followers had seen this happen before. The couple does this occasionally, following certain charities and individuals, to shine a light on them and their activities. And, after a while, the couple unfollows everyone to focus on new people and organizations.
This time, they focused on Duchess Meghan’s work with her patronage Smart Works. In case you don’t know, Smart Works helps disadvantaged women land jobs. In an Instagram post, Meghan shared her work with the organization, which not only provides women with job coaching, but also gives them smart work-wear to land jobs. The post also encouraged her followers to nominate their favorite organization or charity, and 15 of these will be picked to be followed by the couple’s official account – “…we [will] spend the month of August acknowledging the Forces for Change in all of our lives.”
However, Markle’s work with Smart Works does not end there! In the Vogue issue, she’s announcing a new fashion line. The Duchess partnered up with fashion designer and friend Misha Nonoo, and Jigsaw (a British fashion line), as well as other UK based retailers, like Marks & Spencer, to carry the line. The line will be a capsule collection of women’s “work-wear essentials.” The best part of all? For every item of clothing someone buys, the line will donate one of the same article to Smart Works! That’s pretty fantastic!
