Whenever we think of the word family, many of us conjure up warm memories filled with people we love more than anyone else in the world. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for many children. Thousands of children across the globe grow up without the blessing of a wonderful family to look after them. Thankfully, people like Sara Cozad and Stuart Shank, a foster mom and dad from Washington, help children around the world.
Sara and Stuart made it their life’s mission to foster children who needed their help. After years of fostering, they finally felt ready to adopt two brothers. However, when the judge asked if anyone objected to the adoption, someone spoke up. Suddenly, Sara and Stuart found themselves worried about the outcome of their case…
1. Meeting the Love of Their Lives
At the young age of 19-years-old, Sara Cozad met Stuart Shank and they quickly made a date. Just a few minutes into their first date, they both fell deeply in love with one another. Over the date, they quickly went from small talk to deep, personal talk.
“I was 19 when I met my husband, Stuart. About 15 minutes into our first date, he asked me what I wanted to do with my life- What was my dream career? Did I want kids? Where did I want to travel? I told him that I didn’t really know what I wanted to do,” wrote Cozad. While they didn’t know what they wanted to do, Cozad and Shank thought they might want to do it together.
