When world-famous actor Tom Hanks attended the Stagecoach Music Festival, he thought he’d simply have a great time. However, bartenders at the event denied the star beer, because they could not verify his ID. So, he tried to exchange free Toy Story 4 tickets for a beer! Read on to find out what the bartenders did…
Tom Hanks’ Tells His Tale On Ellen
When most of us think about celebrities, we picture them having it all: houses, cars, money, everything! And while they may remember: stars really are just like us! So when Tom Hanks, aka one of the most loved actors of all time, ran into a little pickle that many of us have encountered at one point in our lives – it became a viral moment instantly.
Hanks, whose been Woody’s voice on Toy Story for the past two decades, went on Ellen to tell the tale. Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, attended Stagecoach – a massive country music festival held annually in California. Wilson, a country singer, gave an incredible performance, and Hanks said he enjoyed it all, from his wife’s music to other performers to the different venues.
The 62-year-old actor ran into a problem when he tried to buy some beer…
“You Think I’m Underage?”
Tom Hanks then went on to explain how he wanted to freshen up with a glass of beer. At Stagecoach, attendees must first verify their ID with security. Then, they receive a wristband which allows them to purchase beer. Using this system, instead of having bartenders check IDs, lets the barkeeps serve customers much quicker. However, obviously Hanks is over 21, and indeed quite famous – so he didn’t think it would be a problem he didn’t have his ID verified.
Hanks told Ellen, “So I went to the place where you get the beer from. […] I said, ‘Pull me a draw!’ And they said, ‘We can’t because your ID has not been verified.'” You can be sure Ellen and the audience found it as puzzling and hilarious as Hanks did.
“It says ‘Beer For Sale’ here, and I’ve come to ask for a beer, and you’re not going to give me one because, what, you think I’m underage?!'” Hanks asked the bartenders. When they continued to say no, Hanks began heavily hinting at his identity and that he’s clearly of age! However, the staff remained professional saying the actor, just like everyone else, needed to wait in line for security to verify his ID. Only then could he return and order some beer.
So, What About That Beer?
The legendary icon found it amusing, and also praised the staff for not breaking their rules. Hanks then shared with Ellen that he even offered them tickets to the new Toy Story movie in exchange for beer. “I was offering them tickets to stuff… I said, ‘You will come to the Toy Story premiere with me! [But] they would not allow it.”
According to the actor, the exchange went on for nearly twenty minutes before he went and got the bracelet. Afterward, they allowed him to get all the beers he wanted. Hanks, known for his down to Earth and humble attitude, stated to Ellen he was just messing with them. He understood he needed to follow the event’s guidelines, just like everyone else.
All’s well that end’s well because, in the end, Tom Hanks got the beer he so desperately wanted. So, remember folks: always follow the rules and have your ID verified! That way, you don’t have to try and bribe anyone with free tickets to a movie.
